Don’t Take Your Spouse for Granted, Say Thank You. It sounds so simple, yet those two words don’t get expressed as often as they should in many long-term marriages. Say thank you when your spouse makes a great meal or does the yard work. Each spouse will feel appreciated and happier in your marriage overall.
Talk Regularly About Money Issues: Money can be a constant source of friction in any marriage. In fact, arguments over money are one of the main reason couples split up, but you don’t have to let money issues mess up your marriage. Talk over financial decisions on a regular basis. Make a budget together and stick to it.
Keep Some Spice In Your Marriage. Sex is a big part of your marriage and connects you intimately to one another. No matter how busy life gets, you need to plan some time regularly for intimacy.
Make Room for Both Couple Time and Private Time. You should definitely pursue your own interests, but also make time to connect with your partner in an activity you both enjoy.
Expect Your Spouse to Be Human. Let’s face it; no one is perfect. You or Your Spouse will forget an important date or say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Don't keep a record of wrongs. Forgive, forget and move on.
Never Bad Mouth Your Spouse. No matter how angry you are with your spouse, don’t vent about them to friends and/or family. Instead, calmly talk over whatever upset you with your spouse so it can get resolved.
Listen to You Spouse. Everybody wants to feel seen and heard, especially by the supposed love of their life. It doesn’t matter if what they are saying bores you to tears or you’d rather do something else. Listen anyway- because it helps validate them.
Appreciation, Communication, Intimacy and Forgiveness. All of these qualities are characteristics of a loving, caring marriage.
