Relationship Quiz: Control
Posted on
This month's 4-question quiz is about control.
- Does it seem that you have to ask permission to go places and do things?
- Do you feel like a child when trying to get your needs met?
- Do you find that your partner “lets” you do things?
- Upon returning home, do you get yelled at for being out?
The Control Quiz asks us to examine whether we feel we need permission from our spouse to go somewhere or do something. As a child, permission was needed from our parents, teachers, or others in authority. But as an adult, if you find yourself saying, “My wife lets me go play golf,” or “My husband won’t allow me to go out with my friends,” then you haven’t claimed your personal power in your marriage.
If issues involve shared responsibilities such as child care or household duties preventing free time, then finding a mutual balance with managing duties is recommended. Relationships are not meant to be a prison or trap, but a partnership and support system.
